Current spinal tap simulation manikins used for training physicians lack feedback and cannot adapt to abnormal anatomies. There is a need for a more realistic way to practice this procedure on manikins available in centers such as UC San Diego’s Simulation Training Center.
TapTrak is a modular system which can be used to help future and current physicians construct a mental model using real-time feedback based on needle tracking, and allows physicians to choose the kind of spine they want to work with.
